Collective Health: building better employer benefits

As Collective Health turns seven, we look back at just how far we’ve come and where our mission and vision have carried us.

As Collective Health approaches its seventh birthday, we took a look back at just how far we’ve come and where our mission and vision have carried us. Our co-founders, Ali Diab and Dr. Rajaie Batniji, knew their mission to make understanding, navigating, and paying for healthcare effortless, was nothing short of audacious. Seven years later, Collective Health serves more than a quarter of a million members and over 50 clients from companies like Driscoll’s, Pinterest, Red Bull, Restoration Hardware (RH), and more.

This journey to fundamentally change what’s broken in healthcare started with building a team and fostering a culture internally where meeting such a lofty goal could become possible. Creating a great place to work starts with supporting every employee, across every part of an organization. Despite the uncertainty that 2020 has brought to the workplace, one thing is certain, Collective Health has continued to build a better working world for its employees, members, employers, and the communities it serves.

We’re proud to report that for the third year in a row, Collective Health is Great Place to Work-Certified, with 77% of our employees saying it is a great place to work–beating the national average of 59%. Happily, 94% of new employees felt welcomed when they joined our team, too. This certification is proof that we have the right people in place to tackle some of the biggest challenges in health benefits.

It’s this strong sense of culture and belonging that has allowed us to deliver best-in-class products. This year our work was recognized during UCSF’s Annual Digital Health Awards. Collective Health was selected as a finalist in the category of “best digital health product or solution for employee wellness and prevention.” It’s an honor to be included among many innovative companies reimagining healthcare for both employers and employees.

Finalists were selected across 15 categories by an unmatched team of 250 expert judges and were chosen from more than 750 submissions. In the first round of judging, the priority was on market validation and traction; in the second, innovation and differentiation; in the third, overall patient impact.

“We’re honored to shine a spotlight on the early stage companies and their founders making the brave steps making access to care affordable and practical,” said Mark H. Goldstein, Chairman of the UCSF Health Hub and General Partner at venture capital firm Builders VC. “Our winners represent the best of the best and we’re excited to now help them open new providers’ doors.”

While 151 million Americans rely on their employers for healthcare coverage, we recognize that we serve the individual members just as much as those who employ them. Your health benefits should work for you, and there’s certainly no one size fits all. This year we were recognized by Fast Company for our work around personalized health recommendation feature, known as Guide. This offering makes traversing our fragmented healthcare system easier for our members. It’s a pleasure to have received an honorable mention in Fast Company’s 2020 Innovation by Design Awards in the Health category for the work we’re doing to drive better outcomes with stronger personalization.

We remain dedicated to making healthcare work better for our customers and members. It’s our mission that has led to our teams harnessing technology to build products that bring disparate data together in order to modernize the healthcare experience. But goals as big as changing the healthcare system require focus.

Without dedicated, aligned and passionate leadership, Collective Health wouldn’t be where it is today. Congratulations to our very own Ali Diab, Co-Founder and CEO of Collective Health, for the prestigious honor of being an EY Entrepreneur Of The Year® Northern California finalist. Every year, EY celebrates the achievements of unstoppable entrepreneurs whose boundless dreams deliver innovation, growth, and prosperity that has transformed our world. With Ali’s vision we are building a better working world in healthcare.
